Nominations are now open for Ararat Rural City Council's 2027 Australia Day Awards, recognising outstanding community members who make a lasting difference across the municipality.
The awards celebrate the people who go above and beyond by contributing their time, skills, and energy to enrich local life. Council is encouraging residents to put forward a neighbour, volunteer, or leader who inspires others through their generous community spirit.
Mayor Cr Bob Sanders said the awards are a chance to recognise the people whose generosity, commitment, and practical support make a real difference in communities across Ararat Rural City.
"Across our municipality, there are people who give their time freely to support others, keep local groups going, coach our young people, organise events, and lend a hand whenever it is needed," Mayor Sanders said.
"Their efforts often happen quietly, without expectation of recognition, but they help make our towns and communities better places to live.
"I encourage residents to think about the people who have made a difference in their community and take the opportunity to nominate them for a 2027 Australia Day Award. It is a meaningful way to acknowledge their contribution and say thank you."
Awards will be presented in several categories, including:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Volunteer of the Year
- Community Leader of the Year
Residents can submit nominations through Engage Ararat at https://engage.ararat.vic.gov.au/2027-australia-day-awards-nominations until Monday 4 January 2027.
