Ararat Gathers for RUOK? Day Movie Night

Ararat Rural City Council, in partnership with Ararat Police, invites residents to the annual RUOK? Day movie night at the Ararat Astor Theatre on Barkly Street, Ararat, on Thursday, 11 September 2025. Doors open at 6:30PM, with movies commencing at 7:00PM. Entry is free for all guests.

This marks the fourth year of the event, which was created in response to the increasing number of mental health incidents witnessed by Ararat Police as first responders. The movie night encourages everyone to bring a partner, friend, relative, workmate, or teammate and check in on their wellbeing during the evening. By gathering as a community, attendees can help foster meaningful conversations and supportive relationships.

Thanks to the support of Ararat Rural City Council, One Red Tree, and the Astor Cinema Ararat, organisers have assembled this year's strongest lineup of films to date, including Freakier Friday, F1' starring Brad Pitt and Jurassic World Rebirth.

Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Jo Armstrong, said, "Connection and conversation are simple yet powerful ways we can care for each other. The RUOK? Day movie night embodies our community's spirit, making space for everyone to talk and listen with empathy."

Ararat Rural City Council looks forward to welcoming residents for a night dedicated to awareness and support, and encourages all attendees to check on someone throughout the evening.

Ararat Rural City Council will also be lighting up the Town Hall yellow from dusk to dawn on Thursday 22th September to remind people to check in with their loved ones and ask 'R U OK?'.
