Six motivated members of Ararat's Youth Engagement, Arts and Health (YEAH) Crew have taken a major step in their leadership journey after completing the group's first ever Event Management Workshop.
Held on Saturday 26 July, the one-day session brought together YEAH Crew members and five Council staff to build practical skills in event planning, logistics, workplace safety, and understanding Australian standards for hosting events.
The initiative is part of Council's strategy to empower young people in the region by offering opportunities for hands-on learning and professional growth. All participants - Imogen, Maxine, Zach, Simon, Erin and Taylah - finished the workshop with a certificate and the know-how to take the lead in organising exciting youth-focused events in 2025.
"Providing young people with pathways to develop new capabilities and take on greater responsibility is the foundation of a thriving community. I'm proud to see the YEAH Crew stepping up, learning from experts, and preparing to lead the kinds of activities that make a real difference for local youth," says Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Jo Armstrong.
Council extends its thanks to Jessica's Catering, Ararat Town Hall, and Event Training Australia for helping make the workshop a success.
The YEAH Crew exists thanks to Council's successful Engage! 2025-2027 grant, supported by the Victorian Government.
Young people aged 12-25 interested in joining the YEAH Crew, or learning more about future workshops and projects, are encouraged to contact Nerissa Gee, Children and Youth Programs Coordinator at or 5355 0257.
