Arch North West Takes Shape

Tasmanian Government

Construction is underway on a new centre that will provide wraparound, trauma-informed care to victim-survivors of sexual violence in a single location.

Based in Burnie, the North West Arch's fit-out is underway, with the centre expected to be operating in February 2026.

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said the facility would bring together specialist family violence services, sexual assault services, and police under one roof, so they are readily accessible for victim-survivors.

"Violence against anyone, in any form, is unacceptable, and the harm caused by sexual violence is particularly devastating," Minister Ellis said.

"We want to make sure victim-survivors can get the support they need without adding further trauma to their experience.

"At Arch, there are no marked police cars, no police uniforms, and no requirement for a victim-survivor to speak with police unless they choose to.

"People have choice and control about the kind of support they're seeking, whether it's police, social support services or both."

Building on the success of the Arch centres in Hobart and Launceston, the Tasmanian Government has provided an additional $5 million to establish an Arch in the North West.

Minister Ellis said our Government is committed to making changes that enable victim-survivors to come forward and seek help.

"Our vision is for a Tasmania where everyone is safe, equal and respected, and our homes and communities are free from sexual violence.

"We are taking strong action to keep Tasmanians safe from family and sexual violence through our third Family and Sexual Violence Action Plan, Survivors at the Centre."

The Tasmanian Government has provided $43 million for the establishment of Arch centres in the South and North of the state, and now in the North West.
