The Local Government Youth Council event will bring together young people from the Shoalhaven region to speak about issues that they are passionate about in their local area. We want to hear about what's important to you!

On Saturday 8 August from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. approximately 12 young people will have the opportunity to tell local and state Government about an issue they are passionate about that affects children and young people in the Shoalhaven.

Participants will be asked to prepare a speech in advance (up to 250 words) about an issue that affects children and young people in the Shoalhaven. On the day, participants will receive training in advocacy (campaigning) and how local government works. They will have the chance to ask questions of members of a Local Government Panel and deliver speeches as part of a mock council meeting. Speeches will be filmed and sent to the local MP after the event. Young Peoples voices will be heard.

This Local Government Youth Council event is a 'no cost' event for participants.

This event is proudly supported by the Office of Local Government, Office of the Advocate for Children and Young People and NSW Government.

To express your interest to participate in Shoalhaven's Local Government Youth Council you can contact Shoalhaven City Council's Community Development Officer, Teagan Starr on P: 02 4429 3633 by 2pm this Friday 31 July.
