Armed man charged near Dubbo, NSW

A man will face court today after an incident allegedly involving a weapon in the state’s Central West yesterday, NSW Police say.

Police have been told a man threatened a number of residents in Second Avenue, Narromine before allegedly assaulting a 25-year-old man about 6pm yesterday.

It is alleged the man was in possession of a weapon.

Officers from Orana Local Area Command attended and approached a man who produced a machete and pointed it at them.

Police drew their firearms and negotiated with the man who put the machete down.

The 33-year-old man was arrested. After a violent struggle the man was restrained and taken to Dubbo Police Station.

He was charged with assault, offensive conduct, possession of knife in public place, armed with intent to commit indictable offence, two counts of assault police, and resist officer in execution of duty.

The man was refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court today.
