Armed man, traffic incident - South Brisbane

Police are investigating after a man ran from police prior to being seriously injured by a vehicle in South Brisbane tonight.

It will be alleged the man was armed with a knife and behaving suspiciously on Merrivale Street before he refused requests from police for him to stop.

The man then allegedly attempted to gain access to a premise before walking onto the road where he was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Russell and Melbourne Streets.

Police rendered immediate assistance before the man was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment to a head injury.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

There is no further information available as investigations continue.
