Armed robbery and assault charges, Taringa

Police have charged two boys following the alleged assault and robbery of a 51-year-old male, ride share driver at Taringa in the early hours of this morning.

Around 3.20am the ride share driver responded to a booking at Robertson Park on Indooroopilly Road.

Police will allege when he arrived, he was approached by a male who confirmed the booking and got into the vehicle.

It will further be alleged the man immediately began to assault the driver with another two males also getting into the vehicle and assaulting the driver with hammers.

The driver was forcibly removed from the vehicle with the males driving off in the car.

Police located the pair this afternoon in Loganholme and have since charged a 15-year-old and 17-year-old boy each with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of deprivation of liberty, robbery in company and stealing.

They have both been denied police bail and appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow, August 4.

The ride share vehicle has since been recovered in Logan.

The driver sustained serious head injuries and was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital where he remains.

The investigation is ongoing in relation to others who may be involved in this offence.

Detectives continue to investigate the incident and are appealing for witnesses or dashcam in the area around the time of the robbery.
