Armed robbery charge at Westcourt, QLD

Cairns police have arrested a boy and a man, aged 17 and 20, following investigations into an overnight incident at Westcourt in which it is alleged the occupants of a home were threatened and a car stolen, Queensland Police say.

It is alleged around 11.30pm on December 7, two male persons attended a Dillon Street address at which time a man entered the dwelling and threatened the two male occupants, aged 37 and 39, with a knife.

A brief scuffle occurred inside the residence before the armed man allegedly stole a vehicle and fled the scene.

The second male person, who had been waiting outside, fled on foot and was soon taken into custody in nearby Lennon Street by officers who responded to a Triple Zero (000) call.

Police will allege the stolen vehicle crashed into a traffic light at the intersection of Enmore Street and Reservoir Road, Manoora where the man was taken into custody.

A 20-year-old Cairns man has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today charged with one count each of armed robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlicensed driving.

A 17-year-old Cairns boy is assisting police with their inquiries.

No one was physically injured during the incident.
