Armed robbery charge in Cairns North, QLD

Detectives have charged a woman following an alleged armed robbery in Cairns North overnight, Queensland Police say.

At around 10:00pm an 18-year-old woman was walking to her car on Lake Street when she was confronted by another woman who had allegedly stolen a number of items from her car.

When the car owner confronted the woman she was allegedly threatened with a machete.

The car owner returned to her vehicle and called police.

Officers responded and a woman was located nearby and taken into custody without incident.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

A 35-year-old Parramatta Park woman has been charged with armed robbery and attempted enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence.

She is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court today.
