Armed robbery charges, Brisbane south

Police have charged a 15-year-old boy with a number of offences following investigations into two attempted armed robberies and a crash involving an alleged stolen vehicle in Brisbane’s south yesterday, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged at around 10am, a boy with a black t-shirt covering his face entered a supermarket on Hellawell Road at Sunnybank Hills before producing a knife and demanding money from the store attendant.

The 32-year-old male attendant was unable to open the cash register so the man fled, driving away from the scene in a dark-coloured Jeep.

Police will further allege at around 10.40am, the same male attended a post office on Algester Road in Algester, produced a knife and threatened a 22-year-old female shop attendant, demanding money.

The woman ran to the back of the shop, and the boy left empty-handed. It will be alleged he then approached a female employee of an adjoining supermarket, made demands whilst armed with the knife, and took a sum of cash and cigarettes before fleeing in the Jeep.

A short time later, the same vehicle allegedly collided with another car at high speed along Compton Road near Persse Road in Runcorn.

The Jeep rolled and caught fire, however the male driver managed to free himself before fleeing the scene of the crash.

No one was seriously injured as a result of any of the incidents.

Following extensive investigations, detectives arrested a 15-year-old boy at a Kingston address late last night.

The 15-year-old boy has been charged with two counts each of attempted armed robbery and possessing dangerous drugs, and one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, armed robbery, burglary and receiving tainted property.
