Armed robbery, man charged in Sydney

A man will appear in court today after being charged following an armed robbery at a store in the Sydney CBD earlier this year, NSW Police say.

Shortly before 4.45pm on Thursday 17 March 2016, it’s alleged a man entered the luxury accessories store at the intersection of King and Pitt Streets, armed with a hammer.

Police will allege the man threatened the employees, took a quantity of cash, jewellery and several watches before fleeing in a vehicle driven by a second man.

Police from Sydney City Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

Following an investigation, about 9am today, officers from the Metropolitan Robbery Unit attended a home in Marrickville and arrested a 39-year-old man.

The man was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with armed robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon, drive conveyance without consent of owner, fail to stop after accident, and dangerous driving.

He was refused bail to appear at Newtown Local Court today.

A second man is expected to be charged.
