Armed robbery with violence in Southport, QLD

Police are investigating an incident in which a man was stabbed and robbed in Southport last night, Queensland Police say.

Initial investigations indicate around 10.10pm, a 23-year-old man was sitting with a 21-year-old woman in parklands off Marine Parade when they were approached by an unknown man.

The man demanded money from the 23-year-old and when he refused he was assaulted.

The 23-year-old then complied and handed the man his wallet. The man then fled the scene in a southerly direction towards the Sundale Bridge.

The 23-year-old sustained a stab wound to the back and chest.

Police and emergency crews attended and he was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

The unknown man is believed to be in his late teens or early twenties, approximately 170 -175cm tall with a slim build. He was wearing yellow shorts and a black zip-up hooded jacket.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Investigations are continuing.
