A pair of war memorials overlooking Armidale is close to being fully restored, after one of the structures was struck by a vehicle last year.
Builders engaged by Council to repair the damaged spire have re-engineered the structure to meet current building standards and recently reinstated the spire alongside its matching pair at Armidale's Apex Lookout.
"All that remains is to replace the lettering on the damaged spire," Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray said.
The twin structures were designed by local architects Magoffin and Deakin and were constructed in 1966.
"Their prominent location, overlooking the city and visible from the CBD, is a fitting reminder of the region's women and men who served in our armed forces – and many other Australians who have defended our nation," Councillor Murray said.
