ARRC Gold Coast has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Visy Recycling and City of Gold Coast to advance the development of a new Materials Recovery Facility within the ARRC Precinct at Stapylton.

The agreement marks a major milestone in the precinct's vision to become Australia's leading circular economy hub, keeping more recyclable material in productive use and reducing landfill across the region.

Under the agreement, Visy will operate the proposed Materials Recovery Facility, with ARRC Gold Coast to secure and develop the site and associated enabling works. The partnership also includes collaboration on a joint feasibility study into hard plastics processing and recycling within the ARRC Precinct.

Chair of ARRC Gold Coast, Mayor Tom Tate, said the partnership signals strong industry confidence in the precinct and accelerates the City's ambition to transform waste outcomes for future generations.

"ARRC will be the heart of a new circular economy for our city and our region. By partnering with Visy, we are building an Australian-first innovation precinct that keeps valuable materials in circulation, creates new industry and unlocks the jobs of tomorrow. For our community, this is about moving beyond landfill and creating a greener, smarter and more sustainable future, " said Mayor Tom Tate, Chairman, ARRC Gold Coast

Visy CEO Mark De Wit welcomed the partnership and confirmed Visy's intention to relocate operations to the Stapylton precinct as part of its ongoing investment in Queensland.

"Visy is proud to partner with the City and ARRC Gold Coast and invest in new state of the art recycling infrastructure. This project will allow Visy to expand our recycling capacity, support local manufacturing and create new green collar jobs. The City and ARRC Gold Coast are to be commended for their leadership and vision, and we look forward to working together to deliver long-term environmental and economic benefits for the region," said Mark De Wit, Visy CEO.

The Memorandum of Understanding will enable ARRC Gold Coast and Visy to design a modern, efficient and commercially sustainable recycling system that supports local remanufacturing, improves recovery of recyclables, and strengthens Australia's domestic recycling capability. The precinct will also support opportunities for innovation, education and future energy recovery, creating a fully integrated resource recovery ecosystem.
