A woman has been charged, and a man is in a hospital under police guard after a pursuit in the state's south today.
About 7.30am today (Tuesday 4 November 2025), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were patrolling on Wattle Road, Blackbutt, when they located a Camry sedan with its numberplates allegedly being stolen.
When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated however, it was terminated after police lost sight of the vehicle.
Just after 9:00am, officers attached to Southern Region Enforcement Squad (RES) located a Range Rover SUV on Greene St, Warrawong, believed to be being driven by the same driver of the Camry sedan.
Inquiries revealed the vehicle was stolen from Shell Cove area in October 2025 before in was involved in multiple break and enter offences in Lake Illawarra, Monaro, Sutherland, Inner West and ACT areas between October and November this year.
When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated however, it was terminated due to a safety concern.
A short time later the vehicle was located on Burelli Street, Wollongong, when RES officers attempted to stop it however, the driver rammed three vehicles nearby, which include a marked police vehicle, and left the scene.
Following inquiries, about 9.50am on the same day, police located the SUV abandoned on Cliff Road, Wollongong.
A perimeter was established and extra resources from Dog Squad were called to commence a search of the surrounding area.
Following further inquiries, police arrested the alleged driver – a 42-year-old woman – and the passenger – a 38-year-old man nearby.
The woman was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where she was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, and two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal less than or equal to $60000.
She was subsequently charged with an outstanding warrant on aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence – people there, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal less than or equal to $60000 (five counts), dishonestly obtain property by deception, and aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company intend steal less than or equal to $60000 (three counts).
She was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 3 tomorrow (Wednesday 5 November 2025).
The man was taken to Wollongong Hospital for a treatment with injuries under police guard.
