The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested a 40-year-old male in relation to multiple thefts and a stolen motor vehicle incident this morning in Palmerston.
Around 6:30am, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre (JESCC) received reports that a till was missing from a cash register at supermarket on Temple Terrace. It is alleged that staff from the store noticed the till missing before entering the staff room and locating an adult male inside the room and escorted him out before contacting police.
A short time later, at 6:55am, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received reports that an adult male had entered the yard of a residence in Woodroffe, where he allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle parked in the driveway. A four-year-old child was in the back seat at the time, before the offender reversed out of the driveway and stalled the vehicle.
The child's father chased the vehicle and was able to enter it and apprehend the offender before contacting police.
Police attended and arrested the 40-year-old offender, who was found to be in possession of items stolen from the supermarket in the previous incident.
He remains in police custody with charges expected to follow.
Police urge anyone with information to make contact on 131 444, quoting reference number NTP260003831.
