Arrests made after December fatal crash, South Australia

Major Crash Officers have arrested a man in relation to a fatal crash in December.

Just after 10.30pm on Wednesday 19 December, a police patrol spotted a silver 2001 Ford sedan travel south on Nelson Road near McIntyre at a fast rate of speed.

The patrol in the unmarked police Commodore which was equipped with emergency flashing lights and sirens, attempted to stop the Ford sedan but the vehicle accelerated away continuing south with the patrol terminating the pursuit.

Very shortly after, the driver of the Ford sedan lost control of the vehicle leaving the road and crashed into a group trees in a creek bed.

The driver of the Ford sedan an 18-year-old man from Salisbury East was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious condition, but sadly the passenger, a 19-year-old man from Salisbury died at the scene.

About 9.30pm, tonight (3/1/19) at Salisbury East the alleged driver of the car was arrested and charged with aggravated causing death by dangerous driving, dangerous driving to engage in police pursuit, drive disqualified and breach of bail. He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court tomorrow.

It will be alleged when police were arresting the driver they were hindered by another man at the home. That man, a 54-year-old was arrested and charged with hinder police and resist arrest. He has been bailed to appear in court at a later date.
