Arson charge, Airlie Beach

Police have charged a 22-year-old man following a suspicious building fire in Arlie Beach overnight, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged that a man entered a vacant building on Shute Harbour Road around 11.40pm before starting a fire and fleeing on foot.

Firefighters were called to the scene and extinguished the blaze but the building was destroyed.

A short time later a man was taken into police custody.

No person was injured during the incident.

A 22-year-old New South Wales man was charged with one count each of arson and contravene requirement.

He is scheduled to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday morning, October 22.
