Artists wanted to help turn Caloundra into a Place2Play

The streets and laneways of Caloundra will soon be enlivened through playful artistic activations, with Sunshine Coast Council now seeking expressions of interest from artists or collectives to participate in the Place2Play project.

Place2Play is a part of the broader Place2 creative placemaking project for Division 2.

Divisional councillor Tim Dwyer said art and creativity were key to Caloundra's cultural identity.

"Caloundra is emerging as a dynamic creative hub and a place that celebrates, supports and nurtures creative and cultural activities," Cr Dwyer said.

"Through Place2Play we're looking to activate Downtown Caloundra with creative, temporary community-driven activations that have a local relevance."

Sunshine Coast Council's Public Art curator Julie Hauritz said council was seeking contemporary, thought-provoking artists whose practice explored interaction and site-specific activation.

"For Place2Play we're looking for artists and collectives from all visual, performing, sound, film or interactive arts practices to engage with the community and businesses," Ms Hauritz said.

"The projects could include work such as projection artwork, interactive soundscapes or interactive performances.

"This is a really exciting project and we'll see the final works delivered in urban street locations, shopfronts and unexpected spaces around Downtown Caloundra in early 2020, so stay tuned."

Artists will be required to take part in a flexible three-month place-based developmental process to shape their project and attend three collaborative workshop sessions between October and January 2020.

Artists will deliver their projects between February and May 2020.

Up to five artists will be selected as part of Place2Play with a project fee of up to $7500 available to cover all materials, planning and delivery.

Expressions of interest closes midnight, September 30.

The Place2 activation plan is an initiative of the Caloundra Public Art Plan and supports the delivery of Sunshine Coast Council's Caloundra Centre Master Plan, delivered in partnership with the Caloundra Taskforce, and the Sunshine Coast Arts Plan.
