Ashurst Bolsters Australian RSSG With New Partner

Global law firm Ashurst announces the appointment of Carmen Boothman as partner in the Restructuring, Special Situations & Governance (RSSG) practice, based in Perth, as the firm continues to invest in its restructuring and insolvency offering across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Carmen is a highly regarded restructuring, turnaround and insolvency expert, with deep expertise in secured lending and the banking regulatory environment. Her practice focuses on complex formal insolvency and restructuring processes, secured lending and securities enforcement, and informal turnaround including safe harbour engagements and corporate governance advisory work for boards of ASX-listed and large private companies. She is an experienced and effective advocate in contested Corporations Act and Personal Property Securities Act matters, and regularly supports clients navigating significant corporate distress and transformation. Carmen joins Ashurst from HWL Ebsworth, where she has been a partner since 2022 and has led a number of high-profile mandates, including the Brite Advisors matter.

James Marshall, RSSG Practice Group Lead, APAC, said:

"Carmen has a strong profile in the market and her technical skills in restructuring and insolvency are complemented by a strong litigation sensibility, which is increasingly important in complex RSSG engagements. Her expertise, client relationships, and collaborative approach make her an excellent addition to our team."

Carmen Boothman said:

"Ashurst is a natural fit for my practice, with a global RSSG team that has the depth and scale required for today's most demanding restructuring mandates. I'm excited to join the team and to help clients navigate challenging situations while capitalising on opportunities across the region."
