ASIC Cancels CFD Issuer Trive's AFS License

ASIC

ASIC has cancelled the Australian financial services (AFS) licence of contracts for difference (CFD) issuer Trive Financial Services Australia Pty Ltd (Trive), effective 1 July 2026.

Trive's licence was cancelled because it was no longer carrying on a financial services business in Australia.

ASIC may suspend or cancel the AFS licence of a body corporate should it cease to carry on its financial services business under s915B(3)(a) of the Corporations Act 2001.

The cancellation has been recorded on ASIC's Professional Registers. Trive may apply to the Administrative Review Tribunal for a review of ASIC's decision.

Trive was one of 52 licensed CFD issuers assessed by ASIC as part of a whole of industry review of the CFD sector (26-004MR). After ASIC identified serious deficiencies in some of Trive's processes, the company agreed to stop onboarding new clients in April 2025.

Driving better outcomes for consumers of financial products and services, including high-risk products, such as CFDs, is one of ASIC's priorities for supervising market intermediaries.

Background

Trive held AFS licence number 424122 from 24 July 2012.

Trive was incorporated on 25 June 2012 and was previously known as:

  • ILQ Australia Pty Ltd between 25 June 2012 and 29 July 2018, and
  • Fairmarkets Trading Pty Ltd between 30 July 2018 and 19 December 2023.

CFDs are high risk products which allow investors to speculate on the price movements of assets such as shares, currencies or commodities, without owning them.

ASIC's recent review into the Australian CFD sector

In January 2026, ASIC announced it had secured the return of nearly $40 million to more than 38,000 retail investors and driven substantial compliance improvement across Australia's CFD sector following a whole of industry review (26-004MR).

ASIC's CFD sector review achieved industry-wide improvements in target market determinations, customer onboarding processes, reporting compliance and monitoring of customer trading outcomes.
