Assault and robbery, man charged in Ballina

A man has been charged following the alleged assault and robbery of a man in Ballina last night, NSW Police say.

About 10.30pm (Thursday 15 February 2018), a 22-year-old man was walking along River Street when he was allegedly pushed in the chest by a man walking towards him.

The man allegedly grabbed the 22-year-old’s phone and started running down River Street.

He chased the man and caught him while attempted to take his phone but was assaulted.

Members of the public intervened and police were called.

Officers from Richmond Local Area Command attended and arrested a 23-year-old man.

He was taken to Ballina Police Station where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and robbery.

He appeared in Ballina Local Court today (Thursday 15 February 2018) where he was refused bail to re-appear in Lismore Local Court on Thursday 19 April 2018.
