Assault charges in Stockrington

A man will appear in court tomorrow after allegedly assaulting a man near Newcastle, NSW Police say.

About 1.30am on Friday yesterday, two men and a woman were at a home on Bluegum Close, Stockrington, (about 24km North West of Newcastle).

Police will allege a 43-year old man punched a second 43-year-old man in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. As the man lay on the ground, he was struck with a baseball bat to his back and legs, before being burnt.

About 5am, the man was taken to Belmont Hospital where he was treated for broken ribs, bruising to his eye and burns. He remains in a stable condition.

Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Local Area Command attended the hospital and spoke to the man.

Following inquiries, police attended the home and arrested a 43-year-old man. He was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with recklessly cause grievous bodily harm in company, actual bodily harm in company and possess prohibited weapon.

The man was bail refused to attend Maitland Local Court on Monday 24 October 2016.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
