On March 3, 2022, an inmate was assaulted at Atlantic Institution, a maximum-security federal institution. The injured inmate and the assailant were evaluated by staff members and transported to an outside hospital to receive treatment. Both inmates have since returned to the institution.
The assailant has been identified and the Blackville detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is presently investigating the incident.
The safety and security of offenders, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
CSC will also investigate the circumstances of this incident and continue to work with the police.
