Assault police officer in Alice Springs

A 39-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a police officer in Alice Springs yesterday.

Police allege the man bit the officer on the face when police responded to a request for assistance.

The officer was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment and did not require admission.

The man has been charged with:

  • assault police
  • breach DVO

He was remanded in custody to appear at the Alice Springs Court today.

Superintendent Brett Prowse said, "This type of behaviour never was and will never be acceptable. It is a violent and disgusting act that reflects poorly on the individual.

"In a true reflection of the high calibre of police I am surrounded by, once the officer received medical treatment, he completed his shift and continued to focus on keeping Territorians safe.

"I want to acknowledge this officer and his peers, who continue working tirelessly to keep all Territorians safe 24 hours a day, seven days a week."
