At least 8 gravely injured in lightning strike at German rock festival

At least 8 people were severely injured by a lighting that struck the open-air Rock Am Ring festival in the German town of Mendig, local media report.

According to Germany’s Die Welt newspaper, a total of 42 people were taken to local hospitals on Friday, 8 of them were seriously injured.

Police, firefighters and the German Red Cross arrived at the festival after the lighting struck. The performance was interrupted for about an hour and a half.

A total of about 90,000 people have arrived for the Rock am Ring music festival, which is being held on June 3-5.
