Attempted armed robbery charge in Ballina

Police have charged a man over the alleged attempted armed robbery of a convenience store in the state’s north yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 3.20pm (Friday 22 December 2017), police will allege a man armed with a hunting knife and with his face disguised entered the Bentinck Street store in Ballina and demanded cash.

The store’s owner came to the attendant’s aid and the man ran from the store.

Officers from Richmond Local Area Command and the Police Dog Unit attended soon after and an 18-year-old man was arrested nearby.

Police also seized a knife and clothing which were located in some bushes.

The man was taken to Lismore Police Station where he was charged with attempted robbery armed with an offensive weapon.

He was refused bail to appear at Lismore Local Court today (Saturday 23 December 2017).
