Attempted armed robbery in Townsville, QLD

Police are investigating after a woman foiled an attempted armed robbery by throwing a water bottle at a man in Townsville overnight, Queensland Police say.

A 53-year-old woman had finished work for the evening and was entering her vehicle on Ingham Road when she was approached by a man who demanded her purse while threatening her with a knife.

The woman yelled at the male and threw a water bottle at him.

The male again demanded her purse and attempted to gain entry to her locked vehicle.

A member of the public approached the male, causing him to flee the scene in the company of a second male.

Investigations are continuing.
