Attempted murder, Burleigh Heads

A 31-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged wounding at Burleigh Heads this morning (Monday May 2).

Initial investigations indicate a 43-year-old Surfers Paradise man was at a public bathroom on Goodwin Terrace at approximately 5.40am, when it is alleged the 31-year-old man attacked him from behind.

It is alleged the 31-year-old stabbed and slashed the 43-year-old man with a knife, before he was confronted by passers-by and ran from the scene.

Members of the public followed the man and contacted police.

The 31-year-old was located in Palm Beach on Twenty Third Avenue at approximately 6.10am, where he was taken into custody and a knife was seized.

The 43-year-old man suffered lacerations to his head and hands and was transported in a serious but non-life-threatening condition to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

The men are not known to each other.

The 31-year-old man is expected to appear before Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow, Tuesday May 3.
