Attempted murder charges after officer injured in Booval

Police have charged two teenagers with attempted murder after a constable from the Goodna Police Station was struck by a vehicle in Booval early this morning, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged that around 5am, Constable Peter McAulay sustained serious head and internal injuries after being struck by a sedan that had allegedly been stolen from Sunnybank Hills on September 23.

The officer had just placed road spikes (stingers) over Brisbane Road to stop the vehicle before he was struck.

The vehicle allegedly continued to drive down Brisbane Road and turned into Vowles Street.

It will be further alleged that the two occupants fled the scene on foot but were tracked by a police dog and his handler and located a short time later.

Constable McAulay was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he underwent surgery earlier today for serious head injuries.

He remains in an induced coma in a critical condition in the intensive care ward.

The constable also sustained other serious injuries including broken bones and fractures.

A 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl have both been charged with one count each of attempted murder and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
