Attempted robbery and assault of man, NSW

Police are investigating after a backpacker was assaulted at a premises in Potts Point yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 7pm today, a 24-year-old man was walking to his accommodation from Kings Cross Railway Station.

As he entered the front of the premises on Orwell Street two men followed him in.

The man swiped his card to access his room and was forced in by two men who closed the door behind them.

The men punched and threatened the occupant while trying to steal his satchel bag that was still over his shoulder.

As he screamed for assistance the two men ran from the room empty handed.

Police were called and a crime scene was established while further inquiries where conducted.

One of the men was described as having olive skin with a large build and long dark Rastafarian hair (either braided or dreadlocked) and shaved at the sides.

The second man was described as being Caucasian in appearance, with a tall thin build and spoke with a French accent.

The 24-year-old Belgium National suffered minor injuries and did not attend hospital.

Detectives from Kings Cross Local Area Command continue their inquiries and would like to speak with anyone who may be able to assist.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
