Police are appealing for witnesses after a man allegedly threatened a motorist with a gun and attempted to steal his car in Mountain Creek this morning, Queensland Police say.
It will be alleged around 7.45am a man approached a stationary vehicle on Frogmouth Circuit and asked the 60-year-old male driver for a lift to Sippy Downs.
The driver declined and the man walked away before returning to the vehicle a short time later.
He then allegedly produced what is believed to have been a handgun and demanded the driver hop out of the vehicle.
The victim accelerated his car away from the scene and reported the matter to police.
Officers patrolling Claymore Road at Sippy Downs later located a man meeting a similar description and attempted to take him into custody.
The man allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted two police officers, causing facial injuries to a 38-year-old male senior constable.
The 23-year-old Golden Beach man was restrained and later charged with attempted armed robbery, serious assault police causing bodily harm, two counts of assault police and unlawful entry of a vehicle.
He is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court tomorrow.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the alleged armed robbery attempt to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers.
