Attorney-General lodges appeal

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D'Ath will lodge an appeal against the sentence imposed on Matthew James Ireland for assault occasioning bodily harm.

Ireland was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, with parole eligibility after serving two months, in the Mackay District Court on January 31.

The Attorney-General has asked the Director of Public Prosecutions to lodge the appeal on the grounds that the sentence is manifestly inadequate.

A date is yet to be set for the appeal.
