Auditor-General Pressed to Probe Allan's Project Overspends

Liberal Party Victoria

The Victorian Liberals and Nationals have written to the Victorian Auditor-General seeking an urgent review of Labor's blowouts on transport infrastructure projects.

It follows confirmation by the Premier last week that the cost of the North East Link has suffered a further blowout to a total cost of at least $26.1 billion.

The cost of major project blowouts under the Allan Government has now reached at least $38.8 billion as Victoria's net debt is set to grow to more than $177 billion by 2026-27.

As a result of Labor's financial mismanagement, Victorians are now paying the highest taxes in Australia - more than $5000 per person - as the Government has introduced 53 new or increased taxes since it came to office in 2014.

Shadow Minister for Transport Infrastructure and Major Projects, David Southwick, said: "For the sake of all Victorians, Jacinta Allan's waste and mismanagement simply cannot continue a second longer.

"Whether it's higher taxes, higher energy bills, or underfunded schools, hospitals, roads, and local services, Victorians pay the price for every single Labor blowout.

"With so many being forced to cut back over Christmas, Victorians deserve to know just how much of their taxpayer money Jacinta Allan has wasted."
