Aussie Solar Tech Powers $1B Sunshot Program Launch

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

A pioneering Australian solar technology is the first project to receive funding under the Australian Government's $1 billion Solar Sunshot program.

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency has awarded $46 million to Australian solar company 5B to scale up production of its Maverick solar units

The Maverick system is a solar photovoltaic (PV) array. It is prefabricated and pre-wired. Thanks to its design, it can be folded into shipping containers like an accordion.

This allows fast onsite deployment at up to 10 times the current speed, and at a lower cost.

The funding will help 5B produce and sell 200 MW of the Maverick units over 3 years. This will be enough to power over 40,000 homes.

The funding will also help develop the next-generation low-cost Maverick technology.

The Solar Sunshot program was established to support innovation in Australia's solar PV manufacturing industry.
