Australia appoints new ambassador to Argentina

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Today I announce the appointment of Dr Simon Twisk as Australia's next Ambassador to Argentina.

Dr Twisk will also be accredited to Paraguay and Uruguay.

Australia is committed to enhancing our engagement with Latin America.

Australia and Argentina have a strong relationship anchored in trade and investment, support in multilateral fora and enduring people-to-people links.

Australian investment in Argentina is significant and growing, with a focus on extractive industries, clean energy and agribusiness.

Australia works closely with Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay in pursuit of agricultural trade reform, particularly through collaboration in the Cairns Group and the WTO. Our education exchanges with all three countries are substantial.

Dr Twisk is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and was most recently Assistant Secretary, Free Trade Agreement Goods Branch.

He has previously served overseas in Belgium, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and at Australia's Permanent Mission to the World Trade Organization in Geneva.

I thank outgoing Ambassador Brett Hackett for his contributions to advancing Australia's interests in Argentina since 2018.
