Australia has reaffirmed its commitment to regional security through participation in Exercise Suman Warrior 2025, a multilateral defence initiative under the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA).
The FPDA exercise, which incorporates Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom, is currently taking place at Linton Military Camp in New Zealand.
Exercise Suman Warrior is designed to enhance interoperability, strengthen military ties and improve collective responses to potential security threats in the Indo‑Pacific region.
Australian Defence Force (ADF) Chief of Joint Operations, Vice Admiral Justin Jones, AO, CSC, RAN said the activity was a key opportunity for Defence to strengthen regional security as part of the FPDA.
"Exercise Suman Warrior 2025 is a demonstration of Australia's enduring commitment to working with our regional partners in support of a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific that respects sovereignty," Vice Admiral Jones said.
"Since its establishment in 1971, Australia has supported the FPDA in delivering exercise serials on high-end conventional warfighting, humanitarian assistance, counter-terrorism measures and maritime security to the region."
Exercise Suman Warrior 2025 will see participants respond to a humanitarian aid and disaster relief scenario.
The ADF will be represented at Exercise Suman Warrior by approximately 35 personnel, including specialists in civil-military cooperation and medical officers.
