Australia Calls for Offshore Petroleum Exploration Bids

Dept of Industry, Science and Resources

Nominations for areas in the Gippsland and Bass Basins offshore Tasmania and Victoria are open. These will be considered for inclusion in a potential future acreage release.

The possible release of new areas in these already producing basins will mean producers can capitalise on existing infrastructure and support our energy security.

The future acreage release will target key strategic basins which are a priority in the government's Future Gas Strategy.

Exploration within the Gippsland and Bass Basins may help offset the expected decline in production from existing fields. Unlocking new petroleum resources will help secure energy supplies for Australia.

All projects in the new areas will need to meet strict environmental and emissions standards.

No exploration can occur without a mandatory public consultation for environmental plans.
