Australia is committed to our bid to host COP31 in partnership with the Pacific in 2026.
The UNFCCC's Conference of the Parties, or COP, is the world's most important annual climate change summit.
Each year, it brings global leaders together to negotiate fair climate change solutions and track progress against agreed goals.
Our bid has received strong support from Pacific leaders, as well as international and Australian partners.
We hope to resolve the bid as soon as possible.
Why it matters for our region
The impacts of climate change are already affecting our region. That is why we're committed to hosting a COP in genuine partnership with the Pacific.
If our bid is successful, COP31 would amplify the voices, perspectives and solutions of the enduring custodians of our lands and oceans - Australia's First Nations people and Pacific communities - for the benefit of the region and the world.
An opportunity for Australia
Australia is well placed to help lead the global shift to net zero. Hosting COP31 would offer an opportunity to realise this potential and ensure all Australians benefit now and in the future.
By working with other countries, we can harness our natural resources, skilled workforce and strong trading relationships to significantly reduce global emissions.
As the world's biggest clean energy trade fair, COP31 is an opportunity to attract collaboration and investment for Australian businesses and communities.
