In a win for small businesses, Australia Post has introduced its cheapest delivery option in its parcel range today - the Extra Small parcel - designed to help small business customers cut costs and compete more effectively in an intensely competitive eCommerce market.
Available online and in Post Offices across the country, the Extra Small parcel caters to lightweight items like accessories and cosmetics. Pricing starts at just $5.82 for MyPost Business discounted customers and $9.70 for Parcel Post and $12.70 for Express Post in Post Offices - the lowest price point in Australia Post's parcel range.
The introduction of the Extra Small parcel responds directly to customer demand for lower-cost shipping options, with Australia Post trialling the new parcel in the online marketplace sector earlier this year. The pilot exceeded expectations, confirming strong appetite for more affordable delivery solutions among small and micro sellers.
Australia Post Executive General Manager Parcel, Post & eCommerce Services Gary Starr emphasised the importance of the Extra Small option to support the continued growth of online shopping and give Aussie small business retailers a competitive edge.
"We've listened to our customers, and the Extra Small parcel delivers exactly what they've asked for - a cheaper way to send lightweight items, without compromising on speed or reliability.
"9.8 million households shopped online in the past year according to our latest eCommerce report, and as this continues to grow, our customers need delivery options that help them manage their margins and remain competitive. This new option means our customers now have more flexibility and choice regarding their shipping options," Mr Starr said.
Customers can use either Australia Post packaging, with the new Extra Small Padded Mailer which allows for up to 5 kilograms within Australia, or up to 250 grams with their own packaging.
