Australia Post today broke ground on a multimillion-dollar parcel facility in Gippsland, marking a significant investment in regional Victoria that will strengthen its network and support the continued growth of eCommerce across the Latrobe City.
The new Gippsland Parcel Facility will bring together Australia Post and StarTrack operations from Moe, Morwell and Traralgon into one modern, purpose-built hub, improving efficiency, safety and service for customers, team members and local businesses across the region.
Expected to open in late 2027, the 10,000m² facility will feature advanced automation capable of processing up to 5,000 parcels per hour. The facility will help parcels move through the network faster, improving tracking visibility and create a safer working environment by reducing manual handling for team members.
During the unveiling of the new site, Australia Post General Manager Planning & Infrastructure, Darren Mackenzie said the investment reflects Australia Post's commitment to ensuring regional communities continue to have access to reliable parcel services as customer needs evolve.
"Regional areas like the Latrobe City are continuing to experience strong growth in online shopping, and this investment gives us the capacity to keep pace with that demand while supporting the communities and businesses that rely on us every day.
"By bringing operations together into one purpose-built site, we're creating a safer, more modern working environment for our team members, reducing manual handling and helping parcels move through the network faster and more reliably.
"Australia Post plays an essential role in connecting regional communities and powering the growth of eCommerce for local businesses. This new facility is part of how we're upgrading our network to deliver faster, more convenient and more reliable services for customers now and into the future," said Mr Mackenzie.
The new facility will be the first constructed within the 69-hectare Gippsland Logistics and Manufacturing Precinct (GLaMP).
Minister for Rural and Regional Development Michaela Settle said she was pleased to see construction underway in the precinct, marking another step forward in unlocking investment-ready industrial land across Victoria.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Australia Post as the anchor tenant for the Gippsland Logistics and Manufacturing Precinct, which is a strong vote of confidence in the region.
"This is exactly the type of outcome we wanted to achieve when we invested in the infrastructure needed to prepare this site for development.
"Morwell is a fantastic place to do business, and this precinct is ready to welcome more businesses looking to set up or expand into Gippsland," said Minister Settle.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson said Council was delighted Australia Post had chosen the GLaMP in Morwell for this significant investment.
"I want to thank Australia Post for having the vision to consolidate their operations at GLaMP and for the belief they have in the future of Latrobe City.
"This is great news for our community. It supports jobs, helps us diversify our economy and shows that Latrobe City is a place where major businesses can invest with confidence.
"Having Australia Post as an anchor in the precinct will help open the door for further investment and new opportunities," said Cr Gibson.
The site will incorporate a sustainable design and is planned to feature a rooftop solar system, a battery energy storage system and electric vehicle charging.
Customers will continue to be supported by multiple Australia Post retail outlets across Gippsland, with the new site also set to include parcel locker access points and dedicated customer pick-up and drop-off facilities for StarTrack customers.
This investment is part of Australia Post's broader transformation to modernise its network and deliver faster, more reliable services for communities and businesses across regional Victoria, with new facilities opening in Castlemaine, Benalla, Cobden, Beechworth, Myrtleford, Stawell and Robinvale in the past year.
