Australia has recorded its 21st consecutive monthly trade surplus in September supported by record levels of goods and services exports.
Data released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed a monthly trade surplus of $7.2 billion in September. Goods exports posted a new monthly record high of $34.6 billion and services exports reached a new monthly peak of $8.6 billion.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Simon Birmingham, welcomed the results that further highlights the strength of Australia's international trading position.
"Australia has now posted a monthly trade surplus for 21 consecutive months, helping to boost our economy and create more jobs," said Minister Birmingham.
"Our government continues to deliver more export opportunities and better market access for our farmers and businesses. This includes substantial progress this week on RCEP which will better integrate Australian businesses into one of the fastest growing regions in the world.
"In addition, we continue to work towards swift ratification of Australia's free trade agreements with Indonesia, Peru and Hong Kong by the end of the year.
"Trade has proven to be a powerful driver of economic growth and prosperity and a major job creator with one in five Australian jobs trade related."
The nation's trade surplus has been worth an accumulated $63 billion over the past 12 months and an accumulated $93 billion over the past three years.
