Police are warning the community to be wary of a counterfeit email scam that is currently doing the rounds in the eastern and south eastern suburbs, Victoria Police say.

Members of the public have contacted police stating they have received an email from what they believe is the Australian Federal Police.

The email indicates that the person has been issued with a traffic infringement and that they are required to pay a nominated amount.
