Australian FM Statement On Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Process

Australia welcomes the initialling of a peace agreement by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan in Washington on 8 August 2025.

This marks a significant and encouraging step toward resolving a long-standing conflict in the South Caucasus.

We urge both parties to honour their commitments and proceed to signing a comprehensive peace agreement as soon as possible.

Australia reaffirms its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both Armenia and Azerbaijan. We encourage continued dialogue to secure a just and lasting peace.

Australia commends President Trump's role in facilitating this positive breakthrough.
