Australia welcomes the Joint Statement of the Third Cambodia-Thailand Special General Border Committee meeting on 27 December, including agreement to an immediate ceasefire, and to protect civilians, recommence peaceful border demarcation and de-mining work, abide by international law and release detained soldiers, in accordance with the US and ASEAN facilitated Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration.
We thank the ASEAN Observer Teams for their important, ongoing roles. We urge Cambodia and Thailand to take further steps to achieve a fair and durable peace and to alleviate the humanitarian impact of the conflict.
