Australian Conservatives Release
An Australian jihadi member of the so-called Islamic State caliphate in Syria has asked the federal government to let him return home but the Conservative Party's South Australian Senate candidate, Rikki Lambert, says that shouldn't happen and his passport should be cancelled.
26-year-old Mahir Absar Alam left Melbourne to join IS in 2014 and was recently captured by Kurdish-led forces as IS collapsed.
Alam spoke to the ABC he wasn't a fighter claiming he had worked as a nurse at an IS hospital.
About 230 Australians have joined IS since 2012 and Mr Lambert told 10 News First they made their choice and should now live with the consequences.
