Doonella Bridge Milestone With Concrete Pour

Concrete pours completed this week have marked a significant milestone in the Doonella Bridge upgrade.

The concrete relieving slab on the southern side of the bridge is in place and undergoing a seven-day curing period to allow the concrete to reach the required strength before the next stage of construction can occur.

Noosa Council's Director Infrastructure Services, Shaun Walsh, said the achievement is significant considering the persistent wet weather.

"We've encountered some challenging wet weather conditions, but good planning and coordination between council and contractors have seen solid progress made," he said.

"The concrete relieving slab is a critical structural platform that must cure before heavy vehicles can move across it and road asphalt works can commence."

Those works are likely to start towards the end of next week.

Once those works are completed, preparations will start to switch single-lane traffic onto the southern side of the bridge, allowing construction to commence on the northern lane.

Mr Walsh said the single-lane traffic arrangements appear to be operating well.

"Our traffic staff are continually monitoring traffic, and driver behaviour has certainly helped to keep traffic moving and we appreciate the patience, understanding and kindness while waiting at the traffic lights," he said.

"Contractors are working efficiently to complete the works as quickly as they can," Mr Walsh said.

Tewantin businesses remain open throughout construction, with Council officers regularly meeting with local business leaders.

During September and into October, Council and Tewantin traders will run a Shop and Win campaign, to encourage residents and visitors to shop local.

The promotion will offer shoppers the chance to win a shopping spree across three precincts - Noosa Marina, Hilton Terrace shops and Tewantin village.

Full details to be released next week.
