Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce has blasted the Federal Labor Government following Sunday's terrorist attack at Bondi Beach.
"Let me be clear, Australia does not have a gun law problem. We have a security and immigration problem caused by a weak Government," Mr Boyce said.
"I am disgusted that rather than addressing the root cause of the issue, the Federal Labor Government is gaslighting the public and blaming current gun laws.
"The recent terrorist attack is an example of how our current gun licensing regime works. The ASIO Director said that one of the perpetrators was someone that they had watched.
"If someone was being watched and they knew the household had six licenced firearms (due to gun licencing requirements) in their possession, would you not think that ASIO would have taken those firearms and taken that license off that individual?
Mr Boyce said every single day for the past two years, the lives of Jewish Australians have been made harder because the tide of antisemitism has been rising.
"The Prime Minister has told Jewish Australians he will do whatever it takes to deal with antisemitism, well he must start by committing to implementing his own antisemitism Envoy's report in full," he said.
"It is the Federal Labor Government's job to use the powers it already has to stop extremists, criminals and those on ASIO watchlists from accessing firearms and to strengthen Australia's counter-terrorism response.
"The Prime Minister should have acted months ago on antisemitism. He should have acted at National Cabinet.
"Australians deserve action against antisemitism, and our Jewish community needs it.
"Instead of switching the conversation to gun reform, what we really need to address is immigration and how our current system is not working and act upon it."
