The Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA) warmly welcomes the appointment of Professor Barney Glover AO as the new Commissioner of Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA).
"Professor Glover's leadership comes at a crucial time for Australia's workforce development," said Troy Williams, ITECA Chief Executive.
Professor Glover brings considerable depth of experience from his leadership roles, combining significant expertise from both the skills training and higher education sectors.
"This blend of knowledge positions him uniquely to guide JSA through the complexities of Australia's evolving workforce needs," Mr Williams said.
ITECA believes that Professor Glover's career, marked by his commitment to industry-focussed skills training and higher education programs, will be invaluable in steering JSA's efforts to ensure the Australian workforce is skilled, upskilled, and reskilled effectively.
"His work will be pivotal in addressing the challenges of digital transformation, the transition to a clean economy, and the demands of the rapidly growing care and support sector," Mr Williams said.
ITECA believes that the importance of his collaboration with the ten new Jobs and Skills Councils (JSCs), as well as state and territory governments, cannot be overstated.
"Professor Glover's role will be critical in ensuring that businesses across Australia can access the skilled and educated workforce needed to support a thriving economy. His experience in fostering relationships within the skills training sector and engagement with First Nations Australians and disadvantaged communities further underscores the depth of leadership he brings to this role," Mr Williams said.
His tenure promises to advance the national dialogue on skills and training, shaping a future-ready workforce that aligns with the nation's economic and social objectives.

ITECA represents independent providers in the higher education, vocational education, training and skills sectors. Independent Registered Training Organisation (RTO) support around 89% of the 4.6 million students in skills training and around 10% of the 1.6 million students in a higher education awards program.
